Melanesian Brotherhood Initiates Tumsisiro Communion Forest Conservation Project on Ambae

Published: July 1, 2024

Chaplain to the Melanesian Brothers in Vanuatu, Rev Henry Butu, writes about this new project to uphold the fifth mark of mission.

According to the constitution of the Melanesian Brotherhood, we have a responsibility to care for the environment, which includes plants, animals, fish, birds, flying foxes and so on. The Melanesian Brotherhood in the Southern Region in Vanuatu, wishes to uphold this constitution. We have identified a suitable piece of land – Tumsisiro Communion Forest Conservation Area on the island of Ambae, in which to carry out our divine responsibility that God has offered to us (see Genesis 1:26).

The Tumsisiro Communion Forest Conservation Area will enable us to hear the still voice of God through all He has created. It will be designed in a way that, when entering this sacred environment, one will feel the presence of God, which moves our hearts to allow God’s voice to be heard through nature. Furthermore, it will be a place which the Brothers and other religious groups can spend their time with God in a peaceful environment. A retreat space will be created for Brothers, priests and other people to spend time with God. Deeply, it will enable the Brothers to see the environment as a Holy Altar to God.

The Melanesian Brotherhood in Vanuatu wishes to work cooperatively with you to uphold and care for God’s Creation, which holds the sacred voice of God for us. If there are any funds to help us with this project, we will very much appreciate your support. Again, thank you so much.
